Old flags versus modern porcelain

A lot of customers come to us wanting that traditional York-stone look. Reclaimed-style flagstones have real character, and we still lay them. However, vitrified porcelain has changed the game for low maintenance. It does not stain, barely absorbs water, and the colour holds for years. Older stone needs sealing and re-pointing every few seasons. Porcelain mostly just needs a brush.

The surfaces we work with

We work with sandstone. We use limestone. We lay porcelain. We cut to fit. Every surface gets a proper sub-base, not just a screed on top of whatever was there before (I have seen some shoddy work over the years, and I will leave it at that).

Anti-slip and practical finishes

Near the Moorings pub or anywhere close to water, drainage and grip matter. We specify flame-textured granite anti-slip finish on steps and sloped areas where a wet surface is a genuine hazard. It is not just about looks.

I will be honest, our paperwork could be sharper. But the groundwork? Solid every time.
