Epping Patios

Laid a porcelain patio once and the client said it looked like something from a hotel. That stuck with me.

We have been doing this work in and around Epping, Essex for years. Gardens, paths, full patio installations. We know our materials and we do not cut corners on the prep work.

Right, here is what we actually do:

• New patio installations in porcelain, Indian sandstone, concrete flagstones and block paving
• Garden paving and path laying
• Fencing installations, timber and panel

• Turfed lawns and artificial grass

We work with a fair range of materials. Porcelain is brilliant for longevity but it demands a solid, level sub-base or it will move on you. Indian sandstone needs proper sealing, especially in Essex where the winters get damp and frost can work into an unsealed surface and lift your joints within a season.

Something I have noticed doing work closer to the coast, near areas like Mersea Island, is how coastal salt exposure gets carried inland on the wind and quietly eats away at pointing and weaker stone if you have not accounted for it in the spec. We have. We use the right mortars and the right sealers for the conditions here.

The prep work is where most jobs go wrong. Dig out. Hardcore base. Correct fall for drainage. We do not skip steps because a client wants it done by Friday.
